After graduating from Ohio University in 1972, Fred Ode began his career working as a high school math teacher—though he would quickly become disillusioned with the rigidity of the classroom. Fred quit his job and decided to backpack across the world on a trip that would change his entire perspective. He spent those two years living in his car—or working on the oil rigs of Odessa, Texas, when money got tight—though the experience was foundational for his future success and understanding of life’s possibilities.
In 1985, Fred created Foundation Software, an accounting platform for the construction industry. From one employee to a national enterprise and sister company, Payroll4Construction, Fred’s vision exploded beyond what he initially believed he could achieve and has become one of the leading solutions for the construction industry today.
After 40 years of success, Fred sold his two businesses and now focuses his energies on giving back. Investing in education reform, fair policy, and philanthropy, he’s created the Education Revolution Association, The 3R Collective, and the Ode Family Foundation, all in service of creating opportunities for fair, good people.
